Getting Back to Basics: A Journal of My Journey
LIFE HAPPENS

Hello friends,
I am so grateful that you could join me today.
Lately, I’ve been feeling pulled in too many directions. Life moves so quickly sometimes, and before I know it, my days are filled with endless to-do lists, clutter, distractions, and the pressure to constantly keep up. This week, I’ve been thinking deeply about what it means to get back to basics — to slow down, clear the noise, and reconnect with the things that truly matter.
I’ve realized that somewhere along the way, I started focusing more on being busy than being present. The constant rush left me feeling mentally drained and disconnected from myself. So instead of chasing more, I’m choosing less. Less clutter, less pressure, less distraction. More peace, more intention, and more gratitude for the simple things that make life feel meaningful.
This journey back to basics isn’t about perfection. It’s about creating a life that feels calm, authentic, and nourishing. I want to build habits that support my well-being instead of exhausting me. I want to appreciate slow mornings, meaningful conversations, fresh air, movement, home-cooked meals, and quiet moments that often get overlooked. Most of all, I want to rediscover joy in everyday life.
One of the first things I’ve been working on is bringing movement back into my routine. Exercise used to feel like another chore on my list, but I’m learning to approach it differently now. Instead of focusing on intense workouts or unrealistic goals, I’m focusing on movement that feels good. Morning walks, light strength training, stretching, and even bike rides have helped me reconnect with my body more gently.
There’s something incredibly grounding about starting the day with movement. Even a simple walk clears my mind and helps me feel more energized and balanced. My goal this week has been to dedicate at least thirty minutes each day to moving my body, not out of punishment, but out of care for myself. I’m realizing that exercise is just as important for my mental health as it is for my physical health.
Another part of getting back to basics for me has been spending more time in the kitchen. Cooking has slowly become comforting again, rather than stressful. This week, I challenged myself to try a new recipe: Taro Milk Tea. It was very easy, requiring only 4 ingredients and 10 minutes to prepare. Please comment below, and I will send you the recipe.
The simple act of preparing fresh ingredients felt calming and intentional. When the bread was finally finished, it felt less about creating a perfect bread and more about enjoying the process itself. The fluffiness, the aromas, and the warmth of a homemade bread brought me so much comfort. It reminded me how healing cooking can be when I slow down enough to enjoy it.
At the same time, I’ve been focusing on my home environment and creating a space that feels peaceful instead of overwhelming. I started decluttering one room at a time, and I quickly realized how much physical clutter was affecting my mental state. Letting go of things I no longer use or need has been surprisingly emotional, but also freeing.
I’ve been organizing shelves, filling donation boxes, and finding simple ways to make my home feel calmer and more intentional. Soft blankets, clean spaces, natural light, and little cozy corners have made such a difference in how I feel each day. I truly believe our surroundings affect our minds more than we realize. When my space feels calm, I feel calmer too.
I’ve also been leaning into small acts of self-care lately. One thing that has become really therapeutic for me is taking time to do my hair. It sounds simple, but slowing down to care for myself in that way has helped me reconnect with my confidence and femininity. Instead of rushing through my routine, I’ve been treating it as a quiet moment for myself — brushing my hair slowly, trying new styles, and enjoying the process instead of seeing it as another task.
Something is comforting about these small rituals. They remind me that self-care doesn’t always have to be extravagant. Sometimes it’s just taking the time to care for yourself with intention and kindness.
And finally, I’ve been spending more time outside and reconnecting with nature. Gardening has become one of the most grounding parts of this season for me. There’s something deeply healing about putting your hands in the soil, watering plants, and watching things grow slowly over time. It teaches patience in such a gentle way.
I’ve started planning a small vegetable and flower garden, and even though it’s still a work in progress, it already brings me so much joy. Gardening reminds me that growth takes time, and not everything needs to happen all at once. Sometimes the most beautiful things grow quietly, little by little.
As I continue this journey of simplifying my life, I hope to hold onto the things that truly matter — peace, health, gratitude, creativity, and connection. I’m learning that getting back to basics isn’t about giving things up. It’s about making space for what genuinely brings joy and fulfillment.
Thank you for spending this time with me today, friends. I hope this encourages you to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with the simple things that make life beautiful.
